Principal’s Report
Panther Valley Middle School
“Working together as a community to inspire each individual to achieve success through life-long learning.”

Lisa Mace

The ACE Team competed the week of March 1, 2011 at the Tamaqua Area Middle School. Members of our team this year included Abby Whilden, Steven Reehl, Rian Shubeck, Michael Weng, Michael Lazar, and Amy Corby. They worked hard and performed well at their competition. The advisor for this activity is Mr. Terrence Bonner.

The middle school participated in the county wide severe weather drill on March 1st The students and faculty did an excellent job during this exercise. The procedures in our emergency manual were followed.

The high school JROTC members visited our 8th grade students on March 4, 2011. They did an overview of their program and ran some drills.

Our 8th grade teachers and Mrs. Ogozalek held 9th grade scheduling meetings with all our 8th grade students and their parents throughout the month of March. The course selection book was discussed with parents and classes were selected for next year.

On March 4th we had three students participate in the Regional Computer Fair at the CLIU. Macey Markovich and Steven Reehl competed in the multimedia category by creating a PowerPoint presentation on the Middle School Recycling Team that they will present to the Elem School. Colin Johnson competed in the desktop publishing category by creating several documents publicizing his Johnson Junior Diving organization that he developed. Unfortunately, neither placed but had a good time learning some new technology in the Break Out session taught during the day.

March was the start of the PSSA tests in all three grades. Teachers reported students working hard and taking their time on these tests. Our 8th grade class had the challenge of completing writing and science in addition to the math and reading.

The PTO held a fundraiser at DiMaggios on Thursday, March 17th. We earned $159 from this event – thank you to all those who came out for a good meal to support our organization.

Congratulations to the students of the month for March:
